The hospital provides inpatient and day hospital therapeutic treatment for behavioural disorders, emotional and psychosomatic disorders. The services include inpatient crisis intervention and emergency admissions, short- to long-lasting therapeutic measures as well as outpatient diagnosis and assistance to patients before and after inpatient treatment. In its work, the clinic seeks a close cooperation with numerous youth welfare institutions.

The clinic was expanded in 2010 with five beds and day hospital places. The current total of 15 day hospital places may be accommodated on an interim basis up to the completion of the Mental Health Centre in Bad Cannstatt in an old Paediatrics station and the rooms of the day clinic were integrated in the children's ward, expanded from six to eleven beds. With the planned relocation of the clinic to Bad Cannstatt in 2012, the children and adolescent psychiatry department has expanded by a further ten to a total of 60 treatment places.

In the spring of 2010, new prestigious premises were rented at 31, Hasenbergstraße for the psychiatric outpatient department that has exceeded its capacities. The increased staff now allows optimized conditions for the outpatient diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents.

The clinic has the unique feature of clinical emergency and crisis care within the city of Stuttgart, the district of Esslingen, and Rems-Murr region, and the entire Stuttgart region. The clinic is the central training facility in Baden-Württemberg for training child and adolescent psychiatrists as specialists and is the seat for the Permanent Conference of head physicians of Children and Adolescent Psychiatry in Baden-Württemberg (regional association).
