The clinic's scope of duties includes the entire diagnosis and treatment of arterial, venous and lymphatic diseases. Around 5,000 patients per year are examined and treated in the clinic's outpatient department. In 2010, we performed 1,688 operations. Interdisciplinary treatment concepts are developed and implemented with other speciality departments in the certified vascular centre, such as endovascular therapies for aortic and iliac artery aneurysm, for leg artery stenosis, or complex carotid pathologies.

Treatment and care priorities
  • Operations and stent implantations in cases of carotid artery changes and abdominal aorta extensions (AAA)
  • Operations and endovascular procedures in cases of thoracoabdominal aneurysms and dissections, including hybrid operations
  • Operations on renal and intestinal arteries
  • Leg-bypass systems, particularly for leg conservation in cases of diabetic foot syndrome
  • Dialysis shunt operations
  • Operations on the deep pelvic and leg veins
  • Treatment of varicose veins (classical stripping surgery and minimally invasive endovenous with radio waves or laser)
  • Entrapment operations (knee and arm artery incarceration)
Special offers and facilities
  • Interdisciplinary Diabetic Foot Centre (InDiZ, Clinic for Vascular Surgery and Diabetes)
  • General AVK/vascular consultation
  • Special consultations for carotid, abdomen/pelvic/leg arteries and varicose veins
  • Angiology Laboratory
  • 24-hour emergency ambulance
  • Consultation service for vascular emergencies
  • Kidney transplantation in patients with specific vascular conditions
  • Interdisciplinary surgery short-stay ward (ISW)
  • Spinal cord stimulation in cases of AVK for leg conservation
  • Case Management
Outstanding procedures in diagnosis and therapy
  • Biological carotid artery reconstruction without foreign material and without general anaesthesia
  • Endovenous (minimally invasive) treatment for varicose veins by radio waves or laser obliteration
  • Hybrid ORs: Open surgery and endovascular (stents, PTAs) combined interventions in cases of aortic aneurysm or of circulatory disorders of the pelvic and leg arteries
  • Spinal cord stimulation (SCS), a minimally invasive form of therapy for patients with chronic pain caused by stage III and IV peripheral vascular disease without surgical or interventional revascularisation options
Scientific activities
  • Member of the Board of the Science Association of the German Society for Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine (DGG e.V.)
  • Member of the Board of Private Academy DGG gGmbH (Academy for training, research funding and quality assurance in vascular medicine
  • Member of the DGG/AWMF guidelines commission
