The Clinic of Radiotherapy and Radiation oncology and the Medical Centre provide radiotherapy services with highly qualified personnel and high-performance devices for dose planning and radiation therapy to about 1,800 patients per year in the Stuttgart region. The clinic has three modern linear accelerators, a computer-controlled reload device for contact radiation (HDR-afterloading) and a device for permanent interstitial implantation of radioactive seeds. CT and MRI equipment is used in diagnostic radiology and neuroradiology for cutaway view-based treatment planning. A modern radiotherapy simulator is also available. Modern computer and control programs allow accurate scheduling and documentation of radiotherapy in a networked system. Radio-oncological combination treatments (“radiochemotherapy”) usually take place in the clinic's comfortable and modern wards or are offered on an outpatient basis in close collaboration with internal medicine or paediatric oncologists.

The clinic covers the entire spectrum of radio-oncological disease patterns. Innovative radiation techniques such as Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) can be realized in two specially-equipped modern linear accelerators. Stereotactic precision radiotherapy is in progress. For specific procedures (e.g. tomotherapy, proton and heavy ion irradiation) we have co-operations with neighbouring university clinics.

Of particular importance is the interdisciplinary integration of radiation oncology in oncological multimodal therapy concepts, for example, in cases of malignant lymphatic tissue tumours (“malignant lymphoma”) or certain types of leukaemia. We also offer fractionated total body irradiation in bone marrow transplantation.

Treatment and care priorities
  • All radio-oncological disease patterns
  • Radiation therapy of benign diseases
  • Individually optimized three-dimensional treatment planning (CT and MRI-based), IMRT, IGRT
  • HDR-afterloading brachytherapy, possibly in combination with teletherapy or radiochemotherapy
  • Seed implantation of the prostate, HDR brachytherapy for prostate cancer
  • Combined radiation with chemo-/hormone- / immunotherapy
Special offers and facilities
  • Tumour outpatient clinic
  • CT and/or MRI-based computer planning with image fusion, joint use of the PET image information for individual configuration of the radiotherapy target areas
  • Scheduling and documentation in the RIS
  • Modern linear accelerator with multileaf collimator, IMRT, IGRT
  • Radiotherapy after-treatment and follow-up
  • Interdisciplinary integration of radiation oncology
  • Inpatient palliative treatment
  • Interdisciplinary oncological pain therapy
  • Case Management
