This clinic's work encompasses diagnostics and therapy of cardiovascular disorders, as well as lung-function tests. In this context, the entire spectrum of services involved in maximum care is applied (which corresponds to that which is available in university departments).

For patients suffering from an acute heart attack, there is a 24-hour on-call team which can immediately treat those patients in the cathlab. In the discipline of electrophysiology (that is to say, diagnostics and therapy of cardiac arrhythmias) this clinic is the main centre in the central Neckar region. The close organisational teamwork with and proximity to the surgical clinic Sana Herzchirurgie Stuttgart enables the performance of even high-risk procedures in the cathlab. In addition this clinic (in co-operation with cardiac surgeons) established the minimally-invasive (trans-femoral and trans-apical) aortal-valve replacement. This clinic holds the full authorisation to conduct continuing education for certification in cardiology, intensive care and – in co-operation with the centre's other clinics in the Centre for Internal Medicine – as an internist.

Treatment and care priorities
  • 24-hour on-call response team for cardiac-catheter procedures
  • Coronary angioplasties (PTCA), stent implants

  • Mitral-valve valvuloplastics (PTMC)
  • Schirmchen occlusions in response to ASD and PFO
  • Electrophysiology, 3-D navigation systems
  • Ablations in response to cardiac arrhythmias
  • Pulmonal-vein insulations in response to atrial fibrillation
